Frequently asked questions.

What does counselling look like?

Whether you are coming in on your own, as a couple, or as a family, a few basics remain the same.  Our goal is to see you walking free-er of your concerns than when you first came.  So whether it be relationship improvements, a change in reaction patterns, or working through such difficulties as loss, grief, trauma, anxiety or fear, there is hope for better; much better.

As a counsellor, I am NEVER here to judge you or your journey!  Rather, I am here to help you recognize the tools that you already have, and learn how to use them better.  Together, we may also discover new tools for you to practice and get comfortable with.

Clients struggling with various degrees of trauma and/or PTSD can also experience enormous relief through specific trauma counselling approaches.  If you are concerned about having to re-live your trauma verbally, please set that concern aside as we will be able to work on your trauma without you having to verbalize it.  If and when you choose to put voice to your experiences, you will find a kind and compassionate skilled listener.

How long will my counselling last?

There is no set time limit or span for counselling.  Some concerns that clients come in for may take as few as 4 to 8 sessions.  Other clients may be seeking a deep dig to heal past wounds and reform historical patterns; this will take longer and will generally see deeper healing and transformation.  This is your journey, and you and I will look at your goals and go from there.

Our first common goal is for you to find the relief or healing that brought you to counselling.  To this end, when you feel that you have attained that level of success, you can end your counselling time altogether.  You may also simply wish to cut back and to see/talk to me much less frequently; keeping me simply as another tool in your perverbial tool box.  That is up to you.

What do your fees cover?

Your fees cover your session, be it in person or via phone/video, as well as preparation time and any resources that you may receive as a result of your session.  These resources may include photocopies of print information, emailing/texting links for external resources and research for best practices for optimal success in your counselling journey.

How can I pay my fees?

The easiest way to pay your fees is to send an e-transfer to counsellor@hoperestoredcounselling.ca.  Upon receipt of your fees, our bookkeeping system will automatically email your receipt to you.
